As Singapore’s total fertility rate reaches record lows, Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong has described it as an "existential challenge". Attention is now turning to why fewer are marrying and starting families. A growing part of that story begins earlier — with more Singaporeans staying single for longer, whether by choice or circumstance.
